Bear cubs admitted for long term rehabilitation

Kokrajhar (Assam): Two displaced Asiatic black bear cubs were admitted to the CWRC (Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation) Transit Home in Kokrajhar earlier this week. As with 11 bear cubs successfully rehabilitated in northeast India previously by IFAW-WTI, the cubs will be hand-raised and soft-released back in the wild. Read more »

New born elephant rescued from a ravine

Karbi Anglong (Assam): A new born male elephant was rescued from a ravine in which it was trapped for at least four days with its mother, in Ouguri Range under Hamren Division, Karbi Anglong on Saturday. The mother died on Sunday, even as efforts to save her were in progress. Read more »

Large scale sighting of White-rumped vulture in Sivasagar

Sivsagar (Assam): In some encouraging news for bird enthusiasts, a flock of more than 40 white-rumped vultures was spotted in the Panidihing Bird Sanctuary in Sivasagar district of Assam. Leopard rescued and released in Assam

Kaziranga (Assam): In an exemplary management of a potential human-animal conflict, a leopard trapped in a narrow culvert in the northeast Indian state of Assam was successfully rescued through collaborative efforts of authorities and local people.
