Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) invites applications from individuals with at least 1-3 years of field experience as a Sociologist for our Sundarbans Tiger Project.

Who we’re looking for

As our Sociologist, you will be posted in the Sundarbans landscape in West Bengal, and responsible for on-site implementation of the projects’ activities under supervision and guidance of the reporting manager, and as per the technical and financial plan of the project.

 Qualifications and skills

  • Post-graduate degree in disciplines such as Sociology/Social Anthropology/Social work/Natural Resources Management, with minimum 1-3 years’ experience in conducting field work with indigenous/local communities.
  • Knowledge of social science research techniques including structured and unstructured surveys.
  • Skills in working closely with local community stakeholders, specifically in capacity development and sensitisation of stakeholders, and organising village meetings and workshops.
  • Skills in grant management, technical reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ability to multi-task and ability to create and work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of Bangla language is a must for this position.

Broad responsibilities include

  • The sociologist will be responsible for qualitative implementation of all community-based interventions including; socio economic surveys whenever required, selection of beneficiaries through a consultative process, creating awareness among villagers and students.
  • Implementation and followup, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of activities with field assistants, volunteers, State Forest Department, other government and non- government agencies as per the Project Implementation Plan (PIP).
  • Data collection from field for monitoring and evaluation of various activities and analysis as per monitoring plans and ensure timely delivery of deliverables.
