Obituary: Amlan Dutta
26 October 1977 to 7 April 2021

7 April 2021: In a sudden and shocking incident, our colleague Amlan Dutta, Head, Communications at WTI, left this world after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Doctors tried to save his life in Guwahati and he underwent surgery yesterday, but extensive damage had already occurred and he gave up the fight around 1 a.m. this morning.

This was his second innings at WTI, and it lasted a little over 15 months.  His first stint was in 2005-06 when he worked under the legendary Ashok Kumar in the Enforcement division. Even after he left WTI for a corporate job, Amlan remained connected with his former colleagues. The years he spent in the corporate world and his experience on the other side of the fence gave him a holistic understanding of environment sustainability and cross-functional coordination. Eventually, he relocated to Delhi to join WTI and take up the post of Head of the Communications division.

In 2020, a major health issue during the nationwide lockdown made him reconsider living in the NCR and he chose to move to a cleaner environment, closer to nature. He happily took up a field posting at Kaziranga in Assam, driving there from Delhi with his soul companion, Phoebe the boxer.

Phoebe, unfortunately, was suffering from a debilitating condition that took her to the happy hunting grounds soon after. Amlan did not live a month beyond her, leaving the WTI family shocked at his sudden departure and the unpredictability of life.

We shall remember him for his commitment to his work and colleagues, his gentle demeanour at work, and for his passionately expressed love of cooking, music and travel.

Rest in peace, Amlan Dutta!
