Environment Day celebrations in Chhattisgarh
The World Environment Day was celebrated in and around USTR by planting evergreen trees around landmark locations on the 5th of June, 2019. WTI procured 50 trees, each of them 10ft in height, free of cost and transported them to USTR. The trees included Sacred Fig (Ficus religiosa), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Kadam (Neolamarckia cadamba) and Banyan (Ficus benghalensis). The trees were planted in the core area of tiger reserve on the bund of pond/tank, streams, bank of river/nullah and rough trail crossings to deliver the maximum impact as and when they grow up.
The trees will be looked after by villagers and forest department staff hereon. Trees were labelled viz. Jugadu Vat & Pipal Vriksh, Shyamu Vat & Pipal Vriksh, Kalia Vat & Pipal Vriksh, etc. have been put beside each tree after the prominent wild buffaloes we had in USTR. We lost all three buffaloes in the past, but with this drive, their names will be remembered for a long time to come.
Mr R.K. Rayasth, Deputy Director of USTR and his team also contributed to the planting along with local forest department staff and WTI representatives. Village Sarpanch and villagers also contributed to the planting.
